Dormon R. Hendry, Sr. Obituary

Dormon R. Hendry, Sr., age 86, of Stanford, Kentucky, passed away Monday, October 19, 2020 at his residence.  Born Friday, October 19, 1934 in Laurel, Mississippi, he was the son of the late Russell & Bertis (Barnett) Hendry.  Dormon was a US Army Veteran, who served in the 101st Airborne Division as a Paratrooper.  Dorm worked as a truck driver, for many years, and retired from maintenance in a factory in Connersville, Indiana.  Dorm was an active member of Freedom Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge in Mississippi.  Dorm was also an active member of the Stanford Lions Club, where he served as the Lion Tamer (door greeter) and was, earlier this year, awarded the Melvin Jones Award for his leadership with the club.  Dorm was also an active member of the Cedar Creek Sportsman’s Club. In his spare time, Dorm loved to fish.

Dorm leaves behind his loving wife, whom he married March 12, 2012, Virda Napier Hendry of Stanford; two sons, Dormon Hendry, Jr. (Margie) and David Hendry (Linde) both of Connersville; two daughters, Lori Hendry and Linda Weaver (Ryan) both of Connersville; three step-sons, Tony Tillett (Marilyn) and Rick Tillett (Ranell) both of Stanford and Darrell Floyd of Ashland, Kentucky; 22 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Smith (Homer) of Gulf Port, Mississippi; special daughter-in-law, Trudy Tillett of Stanford; and special K-9 friend, Prince. 

In addition to his parents, Dorm was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Cook Hendry; one daughter, Lisa Bunch; one step-son, Mike Tillett; and three brothers, R.O. Hendry, Jerry Hendry, and Roger Hendry.

Cremation Rites have been honored.  A Public Memorial Service will be held 2:00PM Saturday, October 24, 2020 at Freedom Baptist Church with Bro. Jeremy Pope and Bro. Johnny Friend officiating the service.  Full Military Honors, performed by the Caswell-Saufley Post #18 of the American Legion, will follow the service.  Tim & Betty Pennington will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

The Public Visitation will be held 1-2PM Saturday at the church.
