Willis "Bill" Jack Lay

Willis “Bill” Jack Lay, age 91, of Broughtontown, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at his home.  Born Thursday, February 20, 1930, in Crab Orchard, he was the son of the late Took Davison & Martha Ellen Weaver Lay.  His loving wife, whom he married Thursday, May 29, 1952, is Hartsell Green Lay.  Bill was a US Army & Air Force Veteran.  Bill retired from Motorola, after working there 30 years.  Bill, and his wife, were founding members of First Southern Baptist Church in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he served as one of the church Deacons. Bill was currently a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.  In his spare time, Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing. 

In addition to his wife, Bill leaves behind two sons, Jerry Davis Lay (Norma) and Jeffrey Douglas Lay (Dixie) both of Broughtontown; one daughter, Melodi Frances Dahl of Knoxville, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Brandon Dahl, Travis Lay, Lexi Lay, Jennifer Carmicle, and Leah Greasley; four great-grandchildren, Ada Clark, Presley Applegate, Brooklyn Crafa, and Owen Greasley; two sisters, Rose Bowers and Velma Yvonne Logue both of Harrodsburg, Kentucky; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by six brothers, Lester Lay, Fred Lay, Ralph Lay, Delbert Lay, Denver Lay, Oscar Roy Lay; and four sisters, Vernice Haverkamp, Loretta York, Mayetta Jacob, and Betty Lou Lay.

A Public Visitation will be held 12PM-1PM Monday, September 20, 2021, at Friendship Baptist Church, Glade Fork Road, Crab Orchard, KY 40419. 

A Public Funeral Service will begin at 1:00PM Monday at the church.  Bro. Kerry Jones will officiate the service. 

Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.  Wayne Keith, Brandon Dahl, Chuck Jacobs, Tommy Gooch, Tim Estes, Dave Wiley, and Bobby Weaver will serve as Active Pallbearers.  Jim Reynolds will serve as Honorary Pallbearer.
