Walter Thornton Obituary

Walter Thornton, age 70, of Junction City, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2024, at his home.  Born Wednesday, August 19, 1953, in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, he was the son of the late George Thornton and the late Gladys Lyons Thornton.  Walter was a factory worker, farmer, and active member of First Christian Church of Junction City.  Walter loved spending time with his family, loved his church, and loved spending time outdoors-farming, camping, fishing, and hunting. 

Walter leaves behind his loving wife, whom he married Wednesday, December 19, 2018, Debbie McKnight Thornton, of Junction City; one daughter, Crystal Arnett of Harrodsburg; one stepson, Eric Board of Junction City; five grandchildren, Montana Thornton of Harrodsburg, Noah Thornton of Harrodsburg, Ryver Hines of Harrodsburg, Cheyenne Board of Lancaster, and Skye Board of Lancaster; and several other extended family members and friends who mourn his passing. 

In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by wife, Joann Bodner Thornton; one son, Jeremy Thornton; and two sisters, Malinda Taylor and Doris Montgomery. 

Public Visitations will be held 5-8PM Tuesday, February 6, 2024, and 11AM-1PM Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at First Christian Church of Junction City. 

The Public Funeral Service will be held 1:00PM Wednesday, at the church.  Bro. Derrel Cone and Bro. Raymond Float will officiate the service.  The Funeral Service will be livestreamed on Walter’s memorial page of the funeral home’s website. 

Burial will follow in Junction City Cemetery.  Clarence Belcher, Sam Buckingham, Noah Thornton, J.C. Hanny, Ethan White, and Jeff Matherly will serve as Active Pallbearers.  The men of First Christian Church, Dwight Coontz, Hunter Johnson, and Eric Board will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
