Thelma Jane Cook Obituary

Thelma ‘Sissy’ Jane Cook, age 53, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. Born on Saturday, December 5, 1970. Sissy was a beloved daughter, sister, and friend, whose life was a testament to joy, love, and resilience. Despite living with Down syndrome, Sissy inspired all who knew her with her remarkable determination and zest for life.

Throughout her life, Sissy touched countless hearts with her infectious smile and unbreakable spirit. She embraced each day with curiosity, finding happiness in the simplest of things, whether it was spending time with her family, engaging in her favorite activities, or chasing around her brothers. Babies stole Sissy’s heart, and she was always so excited to meet the new family additions.

Sissy will be remembered for her boundless capacity to love and for teaching those around her the true meaning of acceptance and kindness. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion that will continue to inspire everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is survived by her loving family, including her father, Ronald Cook Sr; her siblings, Ronald Cook Jr., and Curtis Cook and her extended family of cousins, nieces, and nephews, all of whom will forever hold her in their hearts. She is reunited with her late mother, Martha ‘Sue’ Cook, for whom Sissy adored.

A celebration of Sissy’s life will be held at Fox and Friend Funeral Home in Stanford, KY on Monday, September 30, 2024, at 2:00PM, with a visitation time preceding from 12PM-2PM.  The celebration of life service will be livestreamed on Sissy’s memorial page of the funeral home’s website.

Sissy will be laid to rest in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.  Ronald Cook Jr., Zak Argo-Cook, Levi Cook, Shawn Gaines, Scott Newcomb, Jason Shockley, Clark Cook, and William ‘Buck’ Rogers will serve as Active Pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to The Down Syndrome Association of Central Kentucky, an organization that supports individuals with Down syndrome.

Her family wishes to thank the caregivers, friends, and medical staff who supported Sissy throughout her life, and all those who helped make her journey so full of love and happiness.

Sissy, you will be deeply missed, but your light will continue to shine in the lives you touched. Rest in peace, dear Sissy.
