Shirley Jean (Conatser) Atwood

Shirley Jean (Conatser) Atwood, age 84, of Moreland, Kentucky, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, June 26, 2025, at her home.  Born Saturday, October 5, 1940, in Lincoln County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late James Conatser and the late Edna (Campbell) Gabbard.  Her loving husband, whom she married on Friday, October 3, 1958, is Donald O. Atwood of Moreland.  Shirley retired from Hustonville Elementary School, where she worked as the cafeteria manager.  Shirley was a member of Moreland First Baptist Church, and enjoyed collecting primitives, growing beautiful flowers, and gardening.  Shirley truly loved her children and grandchildren, was a true friend to all, and will always be remembered for saying, “I Love You More”.

In addition to her husband, Shirley leaves behind one son, Glenn Atwood (Letisha) of Stanford, Kentucky; one daughter, Donna Atwood of Stanford; five grandchildren, Lindsay K. Hammond (Drake Herring) of Gilbert, Arizona, and Levi Atwood (Katie) of Waynesburg, Kentucky, Corey Cummins of Stanford, Dustin Cordier of Stanford, and Josh Cummins of Hustonville, Kentucky; one brother, John Conatser of Nicholasville, Kentucky; and several other extended family members and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Conatser and Jerry Conatser; and one sister, Louise Wilson.

A Public Visitation will be held 11AM-1PM Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Moreland First Baptist Church. 

A Public Funeral Service will be held 1PM Wednesday, at the church.  Bro. Eric Douglas will officiate the service.  The Funeral Service will be livestreamed on Shirley’s memorial page of the funeral home’s website.

Burial will follow in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.   Glenn Atwood, Levi Atwood, Jordan Conatser, Bern Hamilton, Deannie Southerland, Randy Southerland, and Steve Denson will serve as Active Pallbearers.  Bobby Atwood will serve as Honorary Pallbearer.
