Shirley Irene Howard Wilson, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and devoted follower of Christ, passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at her home in Waynesburg, Kentucky, surrounded by her loved ones. Born Thursday, November 16, 1939, in Brodhead, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Edgar & Grace Brown Howard. Shirley was the widower of the late Robert Wilson, whom she married Saturday, July 14, 1956, and preceded her in death September 24, 2021. Shirley loved being a homemaker, loved the word of God, and loved having family Bible studies in her home. She was a talented artist and very creative. Since the age of 19, she was actively involved in church, serving as worship leader, Sunday School teacher, and Youth Director. She was a dedicated member of Journey Community Church. She truly exemplified what it meant to be a Proverbs 31 woman.
Shirley leaves behind three daughters, Marilyn Taylor (BJ) of Martinsburg, West Virginia, Anna Ruckel (Jeff) of Waynesburg, and Tina Goode (Gene) of Lancaster, Kentucky; 11 grandchildren, Renee Wilson, Brandon Wilson (Mary), Blake Ruckel (Leeanne), Jessica Amsler (Derick), Landon Ruckel (Casey), Spencer Taylor (Autumn), Austin Anderson (Cheyenne), Brent Ruckel (Sakkara), Brooklyn Dollar (Mathew), Logan Anderson, and Becca Blackford (Hunter); 21 great-grandchildren, Taryn Penman, Ayden Hafley, Makenzie Tyner, Kelvin Wilson, Jaycee Ruckel, Parker Ruckel, Averie Amsler, Cade Amsler, Kinlee Ruckel, Brody Ruckel, Ellie Ruckel, Westin Ruckel, Clayton Ruckel, Elle Taylor, Thomas Taylor, Lucy Anderson, Eli Anderson, Mila Anderson, Rylee Ruckel, Luka Dollar, and Gracie Dollar; two sisters, Linda Hollis (Bob) of Somerset, Kentucky, and Teresa Shivel (David) of Eubank, Kentucky; and several other extended family members and friends who mourn her passing.
In addition to her husband and parents, Shirley was preceded in death by one son, Danny Wayne Wilson; and two brothers, Bill Howard and Glen Howard.
A Public Visitation will be held 11AM-1PM Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Journey Community Church, 38 Pin Oak Hill, Stanford, KY 40484.
A Public Funeral Service will be held 1PM Tuesday, at the church. Bro. BJ. Taylor will officiate the service. The Funeral Service will be livestreamed on Shirley’s memorial page of the funeral home’s website.
Burial will follow in Piney Grove Cemetery in Brodhead. Blake Ruckel, Landon Ruckel, Spencer Taylor, Austin Anderson, Brent Ruckel, Logan Anderson, Hunter Blackford, and Mathew Dollar will serve as Active Pallbearers. Shirley’s granddaughters and great-grandchildren will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
