Selma Conatser Barnett, age 96, of Waynesburg, Kentucky, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Liberty Care & Rehabilitation in Liberty, Kentucky. Born Saturday, April 13, 1929, in Lincoln County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Estill & Della Mae Young Carrier. Selma was the widow of the late Bro. Fred Conatser and the late C.R. Barnett. Selma was a homemaker, previously babysit for many children, was a talented seamstress and worked as an ambassador at Barnett, Demrow & Friend Funeral Home for many years. Selma was a faithful member of Double Springs Baptist Church, where she previously taught Sunday School and was a member of the church choir. Before her passing, Selma was the oldest living member of the church. Selma was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Order of the Eastern Star. Selma was a devoted Christian lady who loved the Lord and her family with all of her heart. She will be remembered for pointing that “crooked little finger” at you whenever she didn’t agree with something you said.
Selma leaves behind one son, Sherman Conatser of Waynesburg; two daughters, Judy McGuffey of Waynesburg, and Gina Martin (Dennis) of Stanford, Kentucky; one daughter-in-law, Margaret Story; one step-son, Dan Barnett (Jane) of Stanford; two step-daughters, Sue Ann Hall of Navarre, Florida, and Clara Rae Haught (Don) of Lexington, Kentucky; 13 grandchildren, Jackie Beaman (Donald), Randy McGuffey, Jr. (Staci), Lori McGuffey Rice (Charlie), Jenny Kittinger (Zach), Melissa McGuffey Reed (David), Rob Conatser, Gentry Barnett (Sarah), Anissa Rush (Mike), Jennifer Duff, Jackie White (Robin), Jim Duff, Tara Story, and Wendy Dick (Jimmy); 27 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends who mourn her passing.
In addition to her husbands and parents, Selma was preceded in death by three sons, Freddie Conatser, Larry Conatser, and Ralph Conatser (infant); 4 grandchildren, Troy Martin, Bryan Martin, Stephanie Conatser, and Cassie Barnett; two sons-in-law, Randy McGuffey and Boyd L. Hall; 7 brothers, Carl Carrier, Harold Carrier, Bill Carrier, Doc Carrier, Loge Carrier, Tige Carrier, and Marvin Carrier; and three sisters, Margie Vickers, Rose Hafley, and Alberta Carrier.
Public Visitations will be held 5-8PM Thursday, February 12, 2026, and 9-11AM Friday, February 13, 2026, at Double Springs Baptist Church.
A Public Funeral Service will be held 11AM Friday, at the church. Bro. Brad King & Bro. Kerry Jones will officiate the service. The Funeral Service will be livestreamed on Selma’s memorial page of the funeral home’s website.
Burial will follow in Moreland Cemetery, by her late husband Bro. Fred Conatser. Selma’s grandsons will serve as Active Pallbearers. Selma’s granddaughters, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
