Peter Hughes, 89, of Stanford passed away Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Stanford Crossing. Peter was born in Norwood, Ohio on February 9, 1937 to the late Neil and Mary Alice Reed. He is survived by his loving wife Rosemary Hughes.
Peter was an exceptional athlete and a man of many talents. He enjoyed and played many different sports such as baseball, golf, skiing and fishing. He was an athletic trainer for his high school football team and made his living for many years as a sailboat racer and salesman. Perhaps his greatest athletic accomplishment, however, was in the sport of hockey where he played in the minor leagues where he won an award for the fastest skater. He also enjoyed refereeing hockey games.
In addition to his wife, Peter is survived by two sons, Dan Hughes (Eileen) of Delhi, Ohio and Morely Hughes (Cheryl) of San Antonio, Texas; an additional “son” Timmy “Yogi” Sannes of Grasslake, Ohio; a sister, Judy Hughes of Ohio; four grandsons, Jonathan Hughes of Montana, Nicholas Hughes (Tate) of Colorado, Craig Ostrum of Texas and Aaron Ostrum of Texas; and a good friend, Steve Denson of Stanford.
Peter is preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Hughes and a sister, Barbara Ann Listerman.
Peter’s wishes for cremation will be honored. No public services are planned at this time.
Fox and Friend Funeral Home is entrusted with Peter’s arrangements. Guestbook at www.friendfuneralhomes.com.
