Nancy Kay (Reynolds) Cook Obituary

Nancy Kay (Reynolds) Cook was born on October 18, 1943, and went to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.  She was born in Lexington, Kentucky and grew up in Waynesburg, just south of Lexington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Byron Mercer Reynolds and Nola Evelyn (Wesley) Reynolds; three brothers, Byron Edison Reynolds, Robert Earl Reynolds and Darrell Rickey Reynolds; one sister, Beverly Sue (Reynolds) and husband Kerry Murphy and her son-in-law, Kevin Arnold. She is survived by her brother Byron Dean Reynolds; her husband Condy Cook; her daughter Melissa (Cook) Arnold; son Mark Cook and his wife Tricia and two step grandchildren, Erin & Evan.

Nancy was a loving Mother, Grandmother and Friend to everyone. She was a graduate of Memorial High School, class of 1961.  After high school she worked for a CPA firm and married Condy Cook following graduation; they married on September 16, 1961, and relocated to Chicago, Illinois.  After being in Chicago for some time, they made the decision to return to Lexington where she became a proofreader for a magazine called The Horseman Fair World.

After her two children were born, she spent most of her time with activities that were dedicated to helping them.  She served two years as president of the PTA, along with being a Girl Scout leader.

Every Fourth of July she planned a family reunion with her parents, brothers, and sister and their children. Being with family was one of the highlights of her life; enjoying these get-togethers very much.

Her focus changed after she found out she had breast cancer. She became busy helping other women with similar issues. Along with her friend Patty at Pamela D’s Wigs, she helped people in need of hair after chemotherapy. She also got involved in giving talks at meetings and support groups. She also donated time to Hope Hospice, assisting with mailing out their newsletter.

She was a longtime member of the Southside Church of Christ in Lexington, Kentucky and was baptized at Eubank Church of Christ. She was also a member of Waynesburg Church of Christ. Nancy and Condy were also members of the Gulf Coast Church of Christ in Fort Myers.  She was involved with the church youth activities, including chaperoning youth group rallies for South Side Church to other states.  She loved inviting members of the church over for dinner on a Friday or Saturday night for fellowship.

Nancy loved to travel and going camping and on cruises with her family.  She loved the theater in Lexington. She and Condy would sometimes fly to New York to go to Broadway shows.  Phantom of the Opera was one of her favorites.

Art was one of Nancy’s passions; she was a very talented artist and enjoyed painting whatever caught her eye.  She painted commissioned paintings, displaying many in her home and the home of her friends.  She also held classes where she shared her talents with others.

The things she valued most in life were her faith, family and friends. She was the family matriarch and enjoyed having fun.  She was always there to lend a hand, talk things through, feed you if you were hungry, give you a safe place to stay, and be your shoulder to cry on if you needed one. She will be deeply missed by us all.
