Morton “Sonny” Joseph Metker, 87, passed away on Sunday, November 6th, 2022, in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Born Sunday, April 7, 1935, in Youngstown, Ohio, to the late Morton Joseph Metker, Sr. and Nancy Mcgaughy.
Sonny was a spirited man that lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed flying and received his pilots license in 1955, flying almost 100 recorded flights in his lifetime. He was inducted into the National Auctioneers Association in 1978, spending years serving the town of Hartville, Ohio. During his time in Ohio, he was a part-time grain farmer and began working at the Akron Beacon Journal as a printer, and later becoming one of their first computer consultants. Sonny was also an avid writer, publishing his own book, before he moved to Kentucky in 1992, titled, “The Printer’s Devil”. He and his sons bought the Cash Farm in Stanford, Kentucky and developed the farm into a subdivision, which is known as Cash Creek Estate Subdivision. He was co-owner and builder of The Kentucky Depot Restaurant on Metker Trail, but his greatest accomplishment and proudest achievement was the time he spent serving his country in the United States Military.
He is survived by his three children, Curt (Lynn) Metker of Rock Hill, Joseph (Joe) Metker of McConnell, South Carolina; and a daughter, Teresa McCarty of Massillon, Ohio; three grandsons, Curttis Metker, Colton Metker, and Joey McCarty; two granddaughters, Sage Metker, Jamie McCarty; and three great grandchildren.
Along with his parents, Sonny is preceded in death by two brothers, Mick, and Robert: and two sisters, Joan, and Doris.
