Mildred “Meme” Avanell Baird, age 93 of Stanford, passed away on Friday, December 15, 2023, in Lexington. Mildred was born on Wednesday, November 19, 1930, in Vanceburg, Kentucky. She was one of nine children born to the late Corbert and Cenia Porter, and later adopted by the late Robert and Addie Johnson.
In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Tommy Baird, daughter, Carol Baird, son, Jeffrey Baird, and Great Grandson, Josh Adkins.
She was a faithful member of Mt. Moriah Christian Church and played the piano for over 80 years. She also played the organ for many years at Fox and Friend Funeral Home. Meme loved her family fiercely and cherished each moment spent with them.
Survivors include her son, Greg (Janet) Baird, Grandchildren, Lisa Adkins, Tammy (Kenny) Smith, Tommy Murphy (Misty), Jill (Eric) Maggard, Boone (Karli) Baird, Jacob (Grace) Baird; 8 Great Grandchildren; 6 Great Great Grandchildren, and lifelong friend Alberta Hester.
A Public Visitation will be held 5PM-8PM Monday, December 18, 2023, at Mt. Moriah Christian Church.
A Public Funeral Service will be held 11:00AM Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at Mt. Moriah Christian Church, with Bro. Bill Gooch and Bro. Vola Brown officiating the service. The service will be livestreamed on Mildred’s memorial page of the funeral home’s website.
Burial will follow in Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery. Jacob Baird, Boone Baird, Kenny Smith, Hunter Smith, Tommy Murphy, and Clark Newcomb will serve as active Pallbearers. Tyler Meade, Eric Maggard and Kevin Nally will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
