Martha Josephine Wesley Whiles, age 98, of Stanford, Kentucky, passed away Friday, August 30, 2024. Born Wednesday, May 5, 1926, in the Watson’s Chapel community of Casey County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Vertrees & Lena Godbey Wesley. Martha was the widow of the late Marcus Glenn Whiles, who preceded her in death Tuesday, February 18, 2014. Martha retired as a school teacher, teaching in Ohio, Casey County, Kentucky and Lincoln County, Kentucky school systems. She was an active member of Indian Hills Christian Church in Danville, Kentucky. Martha was also active in the Lincoln County Republican Party, Red Hat Society, Lincoln County Senior Citizens Center, and Retired Teachers Association. Martha was a Kentucky Colonel, loved to travel the world, and enjoyed volunteering to help at various ceremonies and dinners to honor veterans.
Martha leaves behind two daughters, Tamara Kaye Whiles Wilson (Greg) of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, and Tracey Rae Whiles of Stanford; one granddaughter, Hannah McKenzie Wilson Hernandez (Matthew) of Versailles, Kentucky; one great-grandson, Lincoln Elhanan Hernandez of Versailles; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends who mourn her passing.
In addition to her husband and parents, Martha was preceded in death by one brother, Vernon Wesley; and three sisters, Mary Wesley Ralston (Martha’s twin), Susie Mae Wesley Hatter, and Maxine Wesley Ethington.
A Public Visitation will be held 11AM-1PM Friday, September 6, 2024, at Fox & Friend Funeral Home.
The Public Funeral Service will be held 1:00PM Friday, at the funeral home. Bro. Jim Cooper, Bro. Mike Crowe, & Bro. Otis Clark will officiate the service. The Funeral Service will be livestreamed on Martha’s memorial page of the funeral home’s website.
Burial will follow in Buffalo Springs Cemetery. Jeff Ralston, Tom Ralston, Steve Ralston, Eric Ralston, Ashley Ethington, David Ethington, Tim Ethington, Allen Vest, and Morgan Powers will serve as Active Pallbearers. Hannah, Matthew and Lincoln Hernandez; and extended family members of the Ethington, Hatter, Ralston, and Wesley families will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
