Margaret Day Eldridge Sams

Margaret Day Eldridge Sams, age 87, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at her home.  Born Monday, May 13, 1935, in Letcher County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd & Louetta Caudill Day.  Margaret was a homemaker, member of Friendship Old Regular Baptist Church and attended First Baptist Burnside.  Margaret was a Godly woman and loved to cook.

Margaret leaves behind two sons, Harold Eldridge (Joy) of Somerset, Kenneth Eldridge (Patricia) of Bronston, Kentucky; one daughter, Barbara Renee Eldridge Lewis (Daniel) of Burnside, Kentucky; two step-sons, Johnny Sams (Linda) and Timothy Sams (Karen) both of Millville, Kentucky; step daughter-in-law, Connie Sams of Millville; two grandchildren, Tony Hockensmith (Tera) of Burnside and Michelle Caudill of Frankfort, Kentucky; six great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; numerous step and step-great grandchildren; one sister, Orene Correll (Paul) of Somerset; and numerous other extended family members and friends who mourn her passing. 

Margaret was preceded in death by her two husbands, Emil Eldridge and Carlos Sams; one daughter, Frieda Pruitt; one step-son, Michael Sams; three grandchildren, Sherry Eldridge, Kenneth Wayne Eldridge, and Michael Hockensmith; four brothers, Wilson Day (infant), Burnett Day, Joe Day, and Estill Day; and seven sisters, Mary Ann Yantz, Rachel Wright, Magel Guinn, Hettie Thompson, Betty Renn, Nancy Caudill, and Minnie Browning.

A Public Visitation will be held 5-8PM Friday, February 3, 2023, at Barnett, Demrow & Friend Funeral Home, 545 KY Hwy 328 West, Waynesburg, KY 40489. 

A Second Visitation will be held 10-11AM Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Friendship Old Regular Baptist Church, 101 Clydesdale Road, Waynesburg, KY 40489. 

The Funeral Service will be held 11AM Saturday, at the church.  Elder Emory Caudill & Pastor Richard Christian will officiate the service.  The Funeral Service will be recorded and uploaded to her tribute page on the funeral home’s website.

Burial will follow in Friendship Old Regular Baptist Cemetery.  Christopher Thomas, Paul Franklin II, Jon Franklin, Anthony Hockensmith, Brandon Hockensmith, Daniel Lewis, and Tony Hockensmith will serve as Active Pallbearers.
