M.T. Smith, age 91, of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. Born Thursday, August 10, 1933, in Breathitt County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Estill & Denvie Parks Smith. M.T. was the widower of the late Alma Francis Combs Smith, whom he married Tuesday, February 1, 1955, and preceded him in death Saturday, May 15, 2010. M.T. retired from VanMeter Construction Company. M.T. spent his young life caring for horses and enjoyed gardening with his wife.
M.T. leaves behind one son, Lloyd Wayne Smith of Lexington; three daughters, Karen Sue Lee (Phil) of Folkston, Georgia, Kathy Lou Bailey (Marion) of Lexington, and Diane Michelle Estes (Jon) of New Smyrna, Florida; 10 grandchildren, Brandon Keith Smith, Selena Warren (Chris), Bluster Wayne Lee (Leeann), Steven Wayne Lee (Sabrina), Latosha Carter, Jason O’Berry (Brandi), Nicole Danielle Bailey, Kristen Lacy Bailey, Jessica Nesset (Kyle), and Erica Rose Woell (Steven); 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Smith (Kim) of Daytona, Florida; one sister, Nyokie Spencer (Lawrence) of Midway, Kentucky; and numerous other extended family members and friends who mourn his passing.
In addition to his wife and parents, M.T. was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Keith Smith and Darrell Lester Smith; six brothers, Elish Smith, Ike Smith, Floyd Smith, Dorsey Smith, Roy Smith, and Ronald Smith; and two sisters, Geraldine Oaks and Edith Smith.
A Public Visitation will be held 1-2PM Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Barnett, Demrow & Friend Funeral Home.
A Public Funeral Service will be held 2PM Sunday, at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Double Springs Cemetery. Lloyd Wayne Smith, Kyle Nesset, Jon Estes, Chris Warren, Brandon Smith, and Marion Bailey will serve as Active Pallbearers. Bluster Wayne Lee, Steven Wayne Lee, and Jason O’Berry will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
