Lester "Bill" Powell

Lester “Bill” Powell, 72, of Stanford, KY, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, KY, surrounded by Phyllis, Dorothy, Michell, and Leslie. 

Lester was born Saturday, January 8, 1949, in Garrard County, KY, to the late Mauhee (Saylor) Ledford and the late James Edgar Powell. 

On Wednesday, September 13, 1967, as childhood friends making mud pies together, to dating and going to the movies, Lester married his soulmate and true love, Bonita Denny.  Together, they were married 53 years, and raised four children together.  Lester was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, friend, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Lester was of the Pentecostal faith.  Lester enjoyed watching classic movies and westerns, doing crossword puzzles, taking car rides in the country, and spending time with family.  Lester also enjoyed cooking, drinking coffee, mowing, and riding four-wheelers.  Lester will be so deeply missed by us all. 

Those left to celebrate his life include three daughters, Phyllis Holcomb (Freddie) of Crab Orchard, KY, Dorothy Hammock (Clinton) of London, KY, and Michelle Hill (Donnie) of Stanford; a very special granddaughter, Leslie Powell, that Lester & Bonita raised as their own; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; a special grandson, Jeffrey Angel, who Lester enjoyed playing tricks; one sister, Phyllis Denny (Johnny) of Berea, KY; two brothers, Alonzo Powell (Janet) of Hamilton, OH, and Albert Ledford of Berea; a very special sister-in-law, Freda Sue Denny; and a special brother-in-law, Freeman Denny.  Lester was also blessed with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members and friends who mourn his passing. 

In addition to his wife and parents, Lester was preceded in death by one grandchild, Austin Allen Hill; and one brother, Reed Ledford.

Private Services and Burial took place Thursday, December 30, 2021.  Burial was in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.
