Kenneth Ray Mitchell, age 87, of Waynesburg, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2020 at his residence. Born Thursday, May 4, 1933 in Waynesburg, he was the son of the late Edward B. and Zula Alice Padgett Mitchell of Waynesburg. Kenneth was a factory worker, Sunday school teacher and Deacon at Double Springs Baptist Church for over 50 years. Kenneth loved singing in the Church choir, driving the Church van and working at God’s food pantry. Kenneth was an avid Kentucky Wildcats Fan and will be remembered as being a loving, giving person to many in the community.
Kenneth is survived by his loving wife Clara Murphy Mitchell; three sons, Mark Dennis Mitchell (Sandy) of Indiana, Vernon Mitchell and Thomas Wayne Mitchell (Pamela J.) both of Waynesburg; three daughters, Cynthia Lou Walker (Mark) of Burlington, Kentucky, Pamela Sue Mason (Wayne) of Waynesburg, and Julie Ann Cotton (John) of Covington, Kentucky; one brother, Edward “Butch” Mitchell Jr. (Deborah) of Cincinnati, Ohio; three sisters, Edith Cooper and Helen Hamilton both of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Barbara Jean Mullins of South Carolina; nineteen grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren plus two great grandchildren on the way; along with several nieces, nephews and close friends who morn his passing.
In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter D. Mitchell and Amos Lee Mitchell; two sisters, Zelma Mitchell and Ruby Mitchell; three grandchildren, Andrew Walker, Jessica Walker and Johnathan Mason.
A Funeral Service will be held 2:00PM Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Double Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Ron Shepherd officiating the service. Burial will follow in Double Springs Cemetery. Dennis Richardson, Wayne Mason, Jesse Manning, Darrell Withers, Rocky Singleton, and David Garrison will serve as Active Pallbearers. Kenneth’s Grandsons will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
The Visitation will be held 6-9PM Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the Church. A second visitation will be held 10:00am until service time on Wednesday.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to current restrictions, masks must be worn, by all in attendance for the Public Visitation and Funeral Service; and social distancing guidelines must be followed.
