Karen Naomi Austin Patterson

Karen Naomi Austin Patterson, age 78, of Stanford, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2022, at Landmark of Danville in Danville, Kentucky.  Born Saturday, October 30, 1943, in Covington, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late William Arnold Austin and the late Hazel Sims Privett (Tommy).  Karen was a member of McKinney Christian Church and previously worked as a waitress at the McKinney Dairy Dip, R&R Donnelly, Palm Beach, and Cowden’s Manufacturing.  In her spare time, she enjoyed diamond art painting, quilting, Bingo, and attending the Lincoln County Senior Citizens Center.

Karen leaves behind one granddaughter, Shayla Patterson of Crab Orchard, Kentucky; two great-grandchildren, Emily Ascencio and Jayden Ascencio of McKinney, Kentucky; one brother, Keith Austin (Kathy) of Moreland, Kentucky; daughter-in-law, Teresa Atkins of McKinney; son-in-law, Jerry Gilpin of Crab Orchard; two nieces, Teresa West of Stanford, and Andrea Lowery (Robbie) of Moreland; one nephew, Charlie Hale of Stanford; several great nieces and nephews; special friend, Sherlene Wilcher of Columbia, Kentucky, along with Sherlene’s children, Billy Wilcher (Amanda), Michael Wilcher (Ronda), and Ashley Harvey (Brandon), and Sherlene’s grandchildren; and several other extended family members and friends who mourn her passing. 

In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by one son, Michael Paul “Batmite” Patterson; one daughter, Paulette Gilpin; one granddaughter, Catisha Patterson Ascencio; one sister, Kay Nona Austin Hale; and three nephews, Bobby R. Means, Jr., William Arnold Means, and Jason Keith Austin.

A Public Graveside Service will be held 3:00PM Saturday, October 15, 2022, at the shelter of Buffalo Springs Cemetery.  Bro. Greg Starbuck will officiate the service.  Burial will follow the service.  The Graveside Service will be recorded and uploaded to Karen’s memorial page on the funeral home’s website later in the day.

Charlie Hale, Dakota Means, Richard Adams, Camron Hale, Robbie Lowery, and Jayden Ascencio will serve as Active Pallbearers.  Emily Ascencio, Robert Stephens Jr., Aubrey Means, Bobby Means, Brooklyn Means, Denver Crossfield, and Austin Hale will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
