Joseph Alfred Nunn
Joseph Alfred “Joe” Nunn, age 84, of Hustonville, KY, died Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Ephraim McDowell Hospital in Danville, KY.
Born May 6, 1936 in Hurt, VA, he was a son of the late John L. Nunn and Rachel McGowan Nunn. He is predeceased by one daughter, Heather Nunn.
Joe, and some of his friends, jokingly called themselves 3M Men—Marines, Masons and Methodists. After graduation from Gretna High School in Gretna, VA, class of 1954, Joe immediately enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he proudly served two enlistments.
Joe was equally proud of being a Mason, most recently affiliated with the Robert M. Sirkle Lodge # 954 F. & A.M., in Lexington, KY. He previously was a member of Mt. Vernon Lodge #22 F. & A.M., Athens, GA where he served as Lodge Master.
Thirdly, Joe was life-long member of the Methodist church where he enthusiastically sang in the church choir wherever he lived.
Joe worked in the electrical business most of his career, starting as an electrical supply house worker, then manager. Later, he graduated to being an electrical instrument technician, traveling and working on large construction projects “from the Rio Grande to the Great Lakes” as Joe himself would often say.
In later years, he had a small electrical contracting business, Oconee Basin Electric Company, in Watkinsville, GA.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Teresa Richardson Nunn; and three daughters: Cynthia Hope Nunn of Columbia, SC; Jennifer Epting (Tim) of Lexington, SC; and Christal (Jarett) Adkins of Lexington, SC.; one brother, John L. Nunn, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; and three sisters, Naomi Copes of Evington, VA; Martha Crawley of Evington, VA and Karen Briggs of Jonesborough, TN; six grandchildren, Steven Cheek, Alyson Adkins, Sarah Adkins, Ashley Epting, Nick Epting and Kevin Epting; and three great-granddaughters.
A memorial service will be held, at a later date, at Motley United Methodist Church in Hurt, VA, with final resting place in the Motley UMC Church Cemetery.
Arrangements, in Kentucky, are being handled by Fox and Friend Funeral Home in Stanford, KY; and burial arrangements, in Virginia, will be made with Colbert-Moran Funeral Home in Gretna, VA.
