James E. "Jimmy" Sowers

James E. “Jimmy” Sowers, age 76, of Stanford, Kentucky, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 30, 2024, at his home.  Born Saturday, May 22, 1948, in Lincoln County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Jesse James & Lillie Spears Sowers.  His loving wife, whom he married Tuesday, July 26, 1966, is Patricia Long Sowers of Stanford.  Jimmy previously worked as a superintendent in the asphalt industry for over 50 years and was a retired bus driver for the Lincoln County School System.  Jimmy was a Christian and attended Mt. Moriah Christian Church.  Jimmy dearly loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  He was an avid gardener, raised state record pumpkins, an avid deer hunter, as a younger man raced dirt bikes.

In addition to his wife, Jimmy leaves behind one son, James Edward Sowers II of Stanford; one daughter, Patachia Dawn Fisher (Rick) of Stanford; five grandchildren, Justin Sowers of Danville, Kentucky, Jimmy Lee Sowers (Sara) of the Highland Community of Lincoln County, Kentucky, Jansin Sowers (Bianca) of McKinney, Kentucky, Taylor Baker (Jacob) of Stanford, and Tarren Fisher of Lexington, Kentucky; four great-grandchildren, Spencer Sowers, Luke Baker, Amelia Baker, and Charlotte Sowers; and several other extended family members and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by one great-grandchild, Stone Sowers; three brothers, Lloyd Sowers, Freeman Sowers, and Bobby Sowers; and four sisters, Eldean Brent, Ella Mae Girdler, Juanita Gibson, and Frances Estes.

A Public Visitation will be held 6-8PM Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Fox & Friend Funeral Home.

A Public Funeral Service will be held 11:00AM Monday, at the funeral home.  Bro. Johnny Thompson & Bro. Bill Gooch will officiate the service.

Burial will follow in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.  Gary Sowers, Justin Sowers, Jimmy Lee Sowers, Jansin Sowers, Spencer Sowers, Jacob Baker, and Christopher Southall will serve as Active Pallbearers.  Robbie Sowers, Keith Long, Tommy Brent, and Rick Fisher will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
