Hurshel "Dee" Padgett

Hurshel “Dee” Padgett, age 83, of Cemetery Road in Waynesburg, Kentucky, passed away Friday, January 24, 2020.  Born Thursday, May 21, 1936 in Waynesburg, he was the son of the late Virgil & Edith Jacobs Padgett.  His loving wife, whom he married Saturday, November 27, 1954, is Ova Sims Padgett of Waynesburg.  Dee worked as a grave digger, store owner, and tobacco farmer throughout his life.  Dee founded and built Miracle Temple Church in 1980, enjoyed riding around the farm, and never met a stranger. 

In addition to his wife, Dee leaves behind two sons, Joey Padgett (Gidget) and Rodney Wayne Padgett of Waynesburg; five daughters, Wilma Rice, Darlene Padgett, Connie Padgett, Kathy Padgett, and Marilyn Padgett all of Waynesburg; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; one brother, Clayton Padgett (Pat) of Stanford; one sister, Corrine Thompson of Waynesburg; and numerous extended family members and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, Dee was preceded in death by one son, Hurshel Padgett, Jr.; one daughter, Peggy Rogers; four grandchildren, Tina Marie Padgett, Joey Padgett, Jr., Joshua Scott Webb, and Bradley Counts; and three brothers, Bill Padgett, Claudie Padgett, and Glen Padgett.

A Funeral Service will be held 1:00PM Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at Miracle Temple Church with Bro. Vernon Smith officiating the service.  Burial will follow in Double Springs Cemetery.  Michael Rice, Brandon Rice, Conner Ping, Marie Padgett, Kemo Padgett, Justin Rogers, Robert Rayburn, and Tracy Meadows will serve as Active Pallbearers.  Garrad Padgett and Colby Padgett will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. 

Visitations will be held 5-8PM Sunday, January 26, 2020 and 5-8PM Monday, January 27, 2020 at the church.
