Gene Harold Hines

Gene Harold Hines, age 78, of Stanford, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, Kentucky.  Born Wednesday, August 20, 1947, in the Ottenheim community of Lincoln County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late George Addison & Dellar Marie (Baugh) Hinds.  Gene was the widower of the late Annie (Denson) Hines, whom he married Saturday, November 2, 1968, spent 57 wonderful years together, and preceded him in death Thursday, May 9, 2024.  Gene retired from Concrete Materials in Danville, where he worked as a mechanic.  Gene was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.  He loved to fish, camp, sit in the sun, and enjoyed spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.  He and Annie, together, raised many children and enjoyed every second of family life together.  To know him was to love him. With every memory we have made, we will cherish for a lifetime.

Gene leaves behind one son, Gene Hines, Jr. (Kelley) of Harrodsburg, Kentucky; one daughter, Patty McCoy (Jeff) of Stanford; son-in-law, Darrell Walls of Stanford; six grandchildren, Melinda Evans (Corey) of Waynesburg, Kentucky, Carla Cunningham of Somerset, Kentucky, Zach Walls (Amber) of Stanford, Cameron Walls (Autum) of Stanford, Abagail Baxter (Charles) of Stanford, and Lucy Hines of Harrodsburg; nine grandchildren, Corey Cunningham, Addison Cunningham, Jayden Cunningham, Hayley Cunningham, Allison Cunningham, Loyalty Pitmon, TyMonte Tonge, Ellie Walls, and Easton Walls; one brother, Mike Dowell (Janet) of Stanford; eight sisters, Pearl Dowell of Waynesburg, Janet Kidd of Waynesburg, Linda Hall (Charlie) of Lancaster, Kentucky, Debbie Symonds (Gary) of Stanford, Kathy Rogers of Lancaster, Rita Gosset of Waynesburg, Rhonda Tarr (Jeremy) of Waynesburg, and Brenda Walls (Rodney) of Waynesburg; and numerous other extended family members and friends who mourn his passing.

In addition to his wife and parents, Gene was preceded in death by one daughter, Teresa Walls; one brother, Jimmy Hinds; and one sister, Glenda Dowell.

A Public Visitation will be held 11AM-1PM Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at Fox & Friend Funeral Home. 

A Public Funeral Service will be held 1PM Tuesday, at the funeral home.  Bro. Chris Taylor will officiate the service.  The Funeral Service will be livestreamed on Gene’s memorial page of the funeral home’s website.

Burial will follow in Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery.  Corey Evans, Corey Cunningham, Zach Walls, Cameron Walls, Darrell Walls, DW Baxter, Jeff McCoy, and Jayden Cunningham will serve as Active Pallbearers.  Melinda Evans, Carla Cunningham, Abagail Baxter, Lucy Hines, Addison Cunningham, Hayley Cunningham, Allison Cunningham, Loyalty Pitmon, Ellie Walls, Easton Walls, and TyMonte Tonge will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
