Gary Lynn Thomas, age 70, of Stanford, Kentucky, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 13, 2024. Born Tuesday, February 22, 1954, in Hazard, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Sam Thomas and the late Geneva Owens Stewart. His loving wife, whom he married Sunday, August 29, 1982, is Brenda McKnight Thomas of Stanford. Gary was a US Army Veteran and retired from the Kentucky National Guard, after 27 years of service. Gary also retired from GE, where he worked as a mechanic for over 21 years. Gary was an avid computer gamer, loved fishing, talking on his Ham radio, camping, and previously drove a dirt racing car. Gary was a mason and member of Waynesburg 328 F&AM.
In addition to his wife, Gary leaves behind five children, Stephanie Lynn Noel (Eddie) of Somerset, Kentucky, Gary Lynn Thomas (Leigh) of Columbia, Kentucky, Shevawn Foley (late Mike) of Russell Springs, Kentucky, Paige Franklin (Zach) of Lancaster, Kentucky, and Joshua Thomas (Tori) of Stanford; nine grandchildren, Kayla Smith, Kendall Noel, Abby Richards, Eli Foley, Isaiah Long, Riley Franklin, Cruz Franklin, Ryder Thomas, and Ari Matthews; one brother, Danny Thomas of Lexington, Kentucky; three sisters, Brenda L. Thomas of Lexington, Tammie Thompson of Franklin County, Kentucky, and Diane Toomey (Lou) of Nashville, Tennessee; and several other extended family members and friends who mourn his passing.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Thomas.
Honoring Gary’s wishes, Cremation Rites have been honored. A Private Family Viewing was held.
