Dorothy Fields Caudill
September 8, 1932 - December 29, 2021
Dorothy Fields Caudill, age 89, of Waynesburg, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, after the onset of Alzheimer’s, complicated by Covid-19.
She was born September 8, 1932, in London, Kentucky, the youngest of seven children born to John and Pecola (known as Cola) Blankenship Fields.
Dorothy was the widow of Otha Ray Caudill, whom she married in 1953. She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Debby (Jerry) Marchal of Wilmore, Kentucky; Don (Courtney) Caudill of Hudson, Ohio; and Melanie (David) Garrison of Stanford, Kentucky. She had four grandchildren: Kevin (Sydney) Caudill of Zionsville, Indiana; Brian (Emily) Caudill of Westerville, Ohio; Melissa (Alex) Kenney of Lewis Center, Ohio; and Ben (Brooke) Marchal of Wilmore, Kentucky. She had five great grandchildren: Aubrey and Reagan Caudill, Thea and Avery Caudill, and James Kenney. She will also be missed by her step grandsons, Jeremy Garrison, and Matthew (Danielle) Garrison and their daughters, Cayna and Mia, whom she dearly loved.
She was preceded in death by all of her siblings: Lucy (Herbert) Byrd, Clyde (Louetta) Fields, Edith (Bud) Broughton, Carl Fields, Lorene (Denver) Johnson, and Bill (Wilma) Fields. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom were dear to her heart.
Dorothy was a faithful member of Double Springs Baptist Church for 50 years, where she taught the adult women’s Sunday School class, sang in the choir, served in Vacation Bible School and on the kitchen committee, and was active in the senior citizens for many years. She was a woman of strong faith, and it was her desire that everyone she knew would come to know her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She loved to work and was a hard worker. One of her first jobs was operating a punch press at Formica in Cincinnati. Later she worked at Food Specialties, also in Cincinnati, where she was proud to peel the onions that went into making Frisch’s tartar sauce. She worked alongside her husband on their Fishing Creek farm. She retired in 1998 from the Lincoln County School System after working as a cook at Waynesburg Elementary School for 14 years and then subbing for another eight years.
