Donald O. Atwood, age 87, of Moreland, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at his home. Born Saturday, September 24, 1938, in Casey County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Estel & Lina Mae (Whited) Atwood. Donald was the widower of the late Shirley Jean (Conatser) Atwood, whom he married Friday, October 3, 1958, and preceded him in death Thursday, June 26, 2025. Donald retired as the Operations Manager at Doxol/Ferrell Propane Company, where he worked for over 34 years. After retiring, Donald enjoyed going to Alabama to fish, where he received many awards from crappie tournaments. Donald was a member of Morland First Baptist Church, where he previously served as Deacon. Donald was known as the “pen man”, where he made custom wood ink pens, bowls, and kerosine lamps. He also enjoyed mowing, gardening and farming.
Donald leaves behind one son, Glenn Atwood (Letisha) of Stanford, Kentucky; one daughter, Donna Atwood of Stanford; five grandchildren, Lindsay K. Hammond (Drake Herring) of Gilbert, Arizona, Levi Atwood (Katie) of Waynesburg, Kentucky, Corey Cummins of Stanford, Dustin Cordier of Stanford, and Josh Cummins of Hustonville; three brothers, Wayne Atwood (Louise) of Moreland, Alvie Atwood (Betty Sue) of Stanford, and Bobby Atwood (Rachel) of Stanford; and one sister, Emile Duke.
In addition to his wife and parents, Donald was preceded in death by one brother, Herlin Atwood.
A Public Visitation will be held 11AM-1PM Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Moreland First Baptist Church.
A Public Funeral Service will be held 1PM Tuesday, at the church. Bro. Phillip Coffman will officiate the service. The Funeral Service will be livestreamed on Donald’s memorial page of the funeral home’s website.
Burial will follow in Buffalo Springs Cemetery. Glenn Atwood, Levi Atwood, Burnon “Ham” Hamilton, Floyd Hillard, Braden Atwood, and Shane Stephens will serve as Active Pallbearers.
