Brenda Faye Yocum, age 77, of Kings Mountain, Kentucky, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, Kentucky. Born Wednesday, February 4, 1948, in Lincoln County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Vernon & Anna Sims Murphy. Her loving husband, whom she married Saturday, June 26, 1965, is Alvin H. Yocum of Kings Mountain. Brenda previously worked as a cook for Stanford Elementary School and was a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church. Brenda enjoyed spending the weekends with her grandchildren, enjoyed going to yard sales, vacationing in Gatlinburg, keeping her house clean, and cooking.
In addition to her husband, Brenda leaves behind five children, Cheryl Hooper of Lancaster, Kentucky, Tonia Hubble (Clay) of Waynesburg, Kentucky, Johnny Yocum (Angela) of London, Kentucky, Paula Brown (David) of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and Cody Von Gruenigen of Kings Mountain; 10 grandchildren, Nathan Hooper (Kensley), Austin Hubble, Tilden Hubble, Hagar Hubble, Hannah Yocum, Alex Yocum (Amber), Arizona Yocum, McKenzie Sharpe (Dave), Cooper Brown, and Matt Hubble (Amanda); 11 great-grandchildren, Emery, Mabel, Oakley, Case, Hadlee, Korbyn, Charli, Mia, Addy, Greyson, and Taygan; one brother, Jeffrey Murphy (Tonya) of Waynesburg; two sisters, Clara Ann Mitchell of Waynesburg, and Barbara Eldridge of Crittenden, Kentucky; and several nieces, nephews, and numerous other extended family members and friends who mourn her passing.
In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by two brothers, Clifford Murphy and Henley Murphy; and one sister, Fern Roberts.
A Public Visitation will be held 11AM-2PM Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Barnett, Demrow & Friend Funeral Home.
A Public Funeral Service will be held 2:00PM Tuesday, at the funeral home. Bro. David Gambrel and Cody Von Gruenigen will officiate the service. The Funeral Service will be livestreamed on Brenda’s memorial page of the funeral home’s website.
Burial will follow at Sims Cemetery in Kings Mountain. Nathan Hooper, Austin Hubble, Tilden Hubble, Hagar Hubble, Matt Hubble, and Jamie Yocum will serve as Active Pallbearers. Conley Sims, Jerry McFalls, Charlie Elam, and Sam Hooper will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
