Betty Jo Demrow Grimes, age 69, of Stanford, Kentucky, passed peacefully on Friday, August 19, 2022, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, Kentucky, following a brief illness. Born Wednesday, July 8, 1953, in Janesville, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of the late Amil J. Demrow and the late Mary B. Peek Demrow. Her loving husband, whom she married Saturday, October 11, 2003, is William R. “Bill” Grimes of Stanford. Betty was a US Navy Veteran, where she actively served as a Nurse during the Vietnam Era (July 1971-November 1972). In 1986, Betty became a Registered Nurse and worked for many years and retired from Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital. Throughout her work career, she was a member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses and became a nationally certified nurse in the operating room. Betty was a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church, member of the Caswell-Saufley American Legion Post #18, and member of the Stanford Lions Club, where she was recently awarded the Finis Davis Award for her service to her club and community. Betty was known as “Granny Betty” and “Nurse Betty” to many and was an avid University of Kentucky Wildcats fan and enjoyed NASCAR. Betty loved traveling and was fortunate enough to take many trips over her lifetime.
In addition to her husband, Betty leaves behind one son, Patrick Knight (Mia) of Nantucket, Massachusetts; one daughter, Amber Rose Knight of Springfield, Kentucky; two grandsons, Brandon Knight and Will Knight; two foster granddaughters, Neveah and Marni; one step-son, William R. “Bill” Grimes (Jill) of Plano, Texas; one step-daughter, Embra Leigh Woods of Danbury, North Carolina; two other step-sons, Bobby Marshall (Nicole) of Walnut Cove, North Carolina, and Mike Marshall (Marsha) of Danbury; seven step-grandchildren, Sydenie Howard (Ryan Crank), J.K. Howard (Nicole Pufahl), Allie Howard, Allison Grimes, Stephanie Grimes, Will Grimes, and Lacy Eads; three “special girls”, Jesse Friend, Reese Friend, and Logan Friend; one brother, Bill Demrow (Debbie) of Liberty, Kentucky; one sister-in-law, Martha Osborne of Sebastian, Florida; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends who mourn her passing.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her three-and-a-half-year-old son, Eric Knight; one brother, Butch Demrow; and three sisters, Becky Spears, Bobbie Sue Benton, and Bonnie Demrow Elliott.
A Public Visitation will be held 5-8PM Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at Fox & Friend Funeral Home.
A Public Funeral Service will be held 11:00AM Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at Fox & Friend Funeral Home. Bro. Brad King will officiate the service. A Nurse Honor Guard Ceremony will take place at the end of the Funeral Service. The Funeral Service will be live streamed on Betty’s tribute page at www.friendfuneralhomes.com.
A Graveside Committal Service and Burial, with Full Military Honors, will follow in Buffalo Springs Cemetery. Bro. Matt Wilson will officiate the committal service. Members of the Caswell-Saufley American Legion Post #18 will serve as Active Pallbearers and will provide the Full Military Honors. Mary “Mary Beth” Friend, Marie Moberly, Clint Bellinger, and close friends at Calvary Hill Baptist Church will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
