Obituary

Beatrice Sizemore “Mama Bee” McGuffey, age 98, was called to her heavenly home on Sunday, July 30, 2023.  Mama Bee was a resident of Stanford, Kentucky, after spending many years living on Shake Rag Road in the Highland community.  Born Wednesday, October 15, 1924, she was the daughter of the late George & Louanna Young Sizemore.

Bee retired, at age 87, from the Lincoln County Attorney’s Office, where she worked as a receptionist.  She previously worked in the cafeteria at Lincoln County High School, at Cowden’s Manufacturing, and at the former Gilliland’s Flower Shop in Stanford.  She will be remembered for her strong work ethic.

When not working, Bee enjoyed tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, which she grew for many years.  She grew and canned vegetables well into her 80’s.  She also loved mowing her yard, which she did well into her 90’s.  She was an avid fan of the University of Kentucky, the Cincinnati Reds, and most importantly, the Lincoln County Patriots.  Bee was a “true Patriot” who attended basketball, baseball, and football games for years, until she no longer could attend personally.  Then, she listened to the radio to support her Patriots.  She was an excellent cook and will be remembered for the many meals she made for her family and friends, especially Sunday dinners.

Bee was the widow of the late Lloyd B. McGuffey, whom she married Friday, October 24, 1941, and preceded her in death Saturday, April 15, 1989.  She adored her husband, with whom she had five children.  She spent years grieving his loss, but kept many fond memories of their life on their tobacco and beef cattle farm in Highland.  She loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother.  Bee was a member of Highland United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, Bee was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Owsley; one son, Jim McGuffey; great-granddaughter, Hannah Jo McGuffey; and great-great grandson, Remington Strong Jacobs.

She is survived by one sister, Stella Mae Jones of Clearwater, Florida; two daughters, Patty Young (Larry) and Debbie Collins both of Waynesburg; two sons, Joda McGuffey (Dolly) of Waynesburg, and Bowen McGuffey of Stanford; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; and numerous other extended family members and friends who mourn her passing.

Public Visitations will be held 5-8PM Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at Fox & Friend Funeral Home; and 11AM-1PM Thursday, August 3, 2023, at Mt. Moriah Christian Church.

A Public Funeral Service will be held 1:00PM Thursday, at the church.  Bro. Vola Brown and Tyler McGuffey will officiate the service.  The Funeral Service will be livestreamed on Bee’s memorial page of the funeral home’s website.

Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.  Active Pallbearers are her grandsons: Bo McGuffey, Casey McGuffey, Jon Collins, Phil Collins, Paul Young, Shawn McGuffey, and Joey McGuffey.  Honorary Pallbearers are her granddaughters:  Janet Jacobs, Lisa Johnson, Tonia Middleton, Alyssa Jo McGuffey, Valerie Day, Leigh Humes, Haley McGuffey, and Jessie Johnson.

Memorial Contributions suggested to Lincoln County High School Athletics, 60 Education Way, Stanford, KY 40484.
