Harold Lee Reed

Harold Lee Reed passed away April 6, 2017, at Merit Health River Region, Vicksburg, Mississippi. He was 81.

Born May 9, 1935, in Stanford, Kentucky, Harold was the son of Amy Evaline Baugh Reed and Clarence Les Reed. He had been a resident of Warren County since 1981.

In 1976 Harold graduated cum laude from Park College, Parkville, Missouri, with a degree in Criminal Justice Administration. He received his Masters degree from Central Michigan University, Detroit, Michigan, in 1978.

Harold served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1981. During his service, he was awarded the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, NCCAG Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal Army, Longevity Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, and Air Force Good Conduct Medal.

After retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1981, Harold began his career with Grand Gulf Nuclear Power Plant as supervisor of the Security and Fitness for Duty Department. He retired with 18 years of service.

Harold loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. For many years, he served as president of Burnt Ridge Hunting Club. He also enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening.

Harold was a devoted, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and a loyal, devoted friend. Everyone that knew Harold loved and appreciated his tremendous sense of humor and dry wit. He kept his family and friends laughing and shaking their heads with his antics.

Harold is survived by his wife of 58 years, Phyllis McMullin Reed, daughter, Donna Sue Reed Nida (Max), grandchildren, Charles Brandon Vickers (Tiffany) and Amanda Sue Vickers Collier, great-grandchildren, Wade Maxwell Collier and Dana Halle Vickers, and sister, Annie Reed Barker (Bill).

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Della Pearl Reed Young and Gladys Marie Reed Carrier, and brothers, Willie Clarence Reed and Donald Dee Reed.

Services will be at Riles Funeral Home on Monday, April 10, at 11:00 with visitation at 9:00 until the hour of service. Harold’s pastors, Terry White and T. J. Tennison, of Crossway Church will officiate.

Pallbearers are his grandson and David Downey, Ron Goldman, William Lowery, Wayne Patrick, Johnny Puckett, John Sessums, Dennis Smith, and James Valentine. Honorary pallbearers are members of Harold’s Crossway Sunday School class.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Crossway Church/Youth Building Program, 1825 Highway 61 South, Vicksburg, Mississippi 39180.

A Graveside Service, with Full Military Honors performed by the Caswell-Saufley Post #18 of the American Legion, will be held 12:30PM Monday, April 17, 2017 at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, Kentucky.  Retired Colonel Rev. DeWayne Brewer will officiate the service.  Burial will immediately follow the service.
